Purpose of the role
The financial contribution from the endowment portfolio is critical to the successful delivery of the business' charitable mission and objective. This portfolio is controlled by the Chief Investment Officer, supported by the Head of Responsible Investment and overseen by an experienced investment committee.
All aspects of investment from investment consultancy services through manager selection and performance measurement and custodial services are outsourced to professional partners. As the portfolio and its commitments have expanded the opportunity now presents itself for the addition of a new member to the investment team.
This role of investment co-ordinator will work as part of a small but very efficient unit and alongside colleagues in the finance team. Their endowment portfolio is globally and broadly diversified and thus experience at a global custodian would be highly desirable alongside a broad understanding of financial assets and markets and how they work. The postholder plays a direct role in contributing to the company's success in supporting the existing team across all aspects relating to the portfolio.
Key responsibilities- The successful candidate will support the operational and administrative requirements that emanate from a suite of external partners such as investment consultant, global custodian and a select number of portfolio managers. Working alongside the existing team in the control and management of the firm's endowment portfolio, the postholder should be a self-starter able to operate both with autonomy, and with understanding, as part of a small team responsible for the management of the firm's principal financial asset.
- As well as operating to a performance target, the endowment also aspires to be a responsible investor and operates to a set of four Responsible Investing Guiding Principles. They work with and through their investment partners to ensure they are aligned with these and the candidate can be expected to assist the Head of Responsible Investing in the monitoring and oversight of our ambitions in this regard.
- The role will entail close co-ordination with the internal Finance team to ensure matters relating to reconciliations (between investment manager accounts and our global custodian for example), treasury balances (cash held at various financial institutions) and income receipts from the investment portfolio are completed in line with prevailing protocols.
- Organise and co-ordinate the papers for the quarterly meeting of the investment committee. Papers are distributed to all members via a digital platform one week in advance and meetings are set one year in advance at a minimum. This ensures there is plenty of time to gather all information required for each individual meeting agenda.
- Work closely with the firm's Finance team to maintain a heightened awareness of fraud, ensuring all cash balances are reconciled and maintained as required to meet operational requirements. This can include the movement of funds from the endowment investment portfolio to the foundations operational bank account.
