Pension Trustee Communications & Development Manager     (12 month Fixed term Contract)

This is a temporary 12 month fixed term contract role as Pensions Trustee Communications & Development Manager within an Executive Team that supports the Trustee of a £11bn DB pension scheme with over 110,000 members, committed to doing the right thing to deliver the best outcome for members.

The requires someone to take ownership of processes as required and has one direct report.

Through exposure to a variety of projects and DB pension scheme specific issues, you’ll have a unique opportunity for professional growth whilst leading on a wide range of tasks vital to the efficient management of the Scheme including;, member communication, Trustee training and development and general pensions administration and governance issues.

This is a small team with a diverse range of experience that listens to and values input in a non-hierarchical environment. 

 

Your key accountabilities will include: 

  • Supporting the team’s objective to develop a sustainable long-term governance structure for the Scheme.
  • Providing a professional communication resource to the Trustee, working with all stakeholders to coordinate delivery of regular and ad-hoc pensions communication materials across all print and digital channels.
  • Developing and delivery of the communication strategy for the Scheme including;
    • Establishing and maintaining Trustee communications objectives and plan and presenting to the Trustee for approval.
    • Analysing and understanding the requirements of various cohorts of Scheme members, including member-segmentation and devising the best strategies to engage with them.
    • Managing external providers involved in the delivery of communications and projects including their budget and direction.
  • Responsibility for the Trustee’s digital strategy (Scheme website and Hartlink Online Portal) to reach and engage with Scheme members and reduce the requirement for paper communication, saving costs and helping meet the companies Plan A objectives.
    • Ensuring the delivery of papers and reports for Trustee meetings and maintaining content held on the Boardroom portal.
  • Developing and managing the Trustee training plan to meet all regulatory requirements and to ensure individual training gaps are identified and training actions are delivered, including the use of other internal and external subject matter experts, as necessary.
  • Preparing and delivering regular updates to the Trustee Directors and other stakeholders on relevant developments in UK Pensions and of the work of the Trustee Board and Trustee Executive Team.
  • Designing and Implementing an annual Trustee Effectiveness review.
  • Lead the process to engage candidates for and select Member Nominated Trustee Directors as necessary to ensure that the Scheme complies with relevant regulations. 
    • Liaising with a wide range of senior stakeholders and advisers to ensure efficient coordination of ad-hoc projects and working group meetings. 

Your key skills and experience will include:

  • Good knowledge of pension scheme member communications, operations and administration and an understanding of Scheme governance frameworks and the role of a Trustee Board.
  • High level of pensions technical knowledge, with a desire to continually improve upon this.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels, including senior stakeholders.
  • Outstanding planner with excellent time management.
  • Comfortable with change and confident to take ownership of tasks and delegate as necessary.
  • Highly self-motivated and enjoys working with own initiative, taking a proactive approach to driving improvements.
  • Competency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint essential. Experience of Office 365, including One Drive and MS-Teams would be beneficial.
